Praying through Psalm 67

Our prayer meeting this week will be centered on Psalm 67. It is a wonderful text that should lead us to reflect on who God is and how that shapes evangelism and mission throughout the world.

Take time to meditate on this Psalm and come prepared to pray together—worshiping God, confessing our sins and weaknesses, and laying our requests at His feet.

Here is a brief explanation of what awaits us at this gathering:

  • Reflection on the passage
    • Topic: God extends His blessings to all the nations through His people
  • Outline:
    • Prayer for God’s blessing (vv. 1-2)
      • Prayer for inclusion of the nations (v. 3)
        • Prayer for the rule of God (v. 4)
      • Prayer for inclusion of the nations (v. 5)
    • Prayer for God’s blessing (vv. 6-7)

  • How is God presented?
    • (vv. 1, 7) God is gracious and is the One who blesses.
    • (v. 2) He can be known; He is mighty to save.
    • (vv. 3, 5) He is worthy of our praise
    • (v. 4) He is the source of gladness and joy; He judges and establishes justice; He guides people.
    • (v. 6) God is the provider for people.

  • Zeal for evangelism is driven by our understanding of God’s blessings, and the desire for God to be glorified. The good and the blessings for us primarily not in what God does for us, but in Who He is (v. 1) “make his face to shine upon us…” All the blessings we receive from God are not for us to selfishly enjoy, but to pass on to others!

Scripture to Memorize

"So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness."
Romans 6:11-13
