Prayer for the First Steps of Faith

Last Sunday, our church experienced yet another great celebration of God’s grace; we witnessed how Christ brought from death to life, from darkness to light, and from slavery to freedom our brothers and sisters who testified to this by receiving the water baptism.

As in any healthy family, we care for one another, share one another’s burdens, and desire what is best for each other. At this time, we especially want to direct our prayers to God and our attention to those brothers and sisters who were baptized. Please take a few minutes this week to pray for everyone who was baptized in the following areas:

- Growing in prayer
- Continually abiding in the Word (reading, studying, and memorizing it)
- Longing for fellowship with the saints (being part of either a home group or a youth ministry)
- Desiring to serve and be useful (becoming involved in serving others)
- Personal holiness (fighting sin and pursuing sanctification)
- Evangelism (sharing their faith with others)
- Generosity and sacrifice (learning, as they are able, to participate financially in the life of the church)
- Growing in love for the Lord and for others
- Learning to recognize and rejoice in God’s grace

These elements are present in the life of every believer, but it is especially important for those who are taking their first steps in the faith to establish right, biblical habits and practices at the beginning of their spiritual journey. Let us pray that they will become healthy, effective, and useful members of the local church.

Scripture To Memorize

"Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday."
Psalm 37:1-6
