Preparation for Listening to the Sermon
This coming Sunday, Lord willing, we will be celebrating our church’s 21st anniversary. Praise God for His faithfulness and care for the church. However, in this letter, I want to focus on something unique—preparing ourselves to listen to the Sunday’s sermon.
As I reflect on the text of the upcoming sermon, I realize it is a powerful and radical message that can deeply impact many. Given the seriousness of this, I suggest that we all take the following two steps:
1) Pray earnestly for God to work in our hearts and in the hearts of all who attend the service. Friends, the sermon and the preacher are merely instruments. Our task is not to evaluate how well the preacher performs, but to pray that the truth proclaimed will bring forth fruit in the hearts of the listeners (Eph. 3:14-19).
2) Spend time meditating on the text for the sermon: Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Try to understand what the apostle Paul mean when he wrote these words. Ask as many questions as you can about this text. Think about the issues and needs this verse addresses.
Also, please get in touch with Paul Belev and Paul Proshak to find out if there is any way you can serve during our celebration. We thank everyone in advance who is willing to respond and prepare to serve the church and our guests!
