Peace be with you! Dear church, we periodically receive different questions that worry people so we’ll be attempting to answer them in these letters. This week we’re going to look at a question about vaccines for COVID-19. The question is simple: how should we react to the vaccine? Why does this question come up today when it didn’t before, when in the Soviet Union people were vaccinated without their consent? Thing is, this question is closely tied to the information people find on the Internet (often without accreditation) where there are many conspiracy theories, some going as far to say that vaccines are the sign of the beast from the book of Revelation.

Answer: It’s important to look at the vaccine for COVID-19 in the same way as other vaccines. There is a real historical statistic that shows that vaccines have slowed many diseases or have reduced the risk of death. On the other hand, there is also a statistic that vaccines negatively affect some people and bring more harm than good. This is understandable, as the “chemicals” that help the body in fighting certain diseases also potentially carry some side effects. Considering this, I’ll share my personal approach to vaccines: in our family we accept the bare minimum and try to postpone the vaccinations of our children as far as possible, but we don’t reject them altogether. If you don’t have a necessity in taking the vaccine and are convinced it is better not to accept them, then don’t. On the other hand, if you are a medical professional or the place where you are requires them, then there is no sin in vaccines.

If you are worried that the vaccine potentially carries some kind of code of the antichrist or whatever else, then carefully read Revelation 14:9, “And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand…” This text is a good indication to believers that receiving the mark of the beast won’t be a set-up or a hidden thing. It will be a conscious decision of every person to worship the beast and accept the mark or not. These are two parallel actions. Those who will accept the mark, will also at that moment be consciously deciding to worship the beast. Vaccine has nothing to do with this.

If you are required to get the vaccine but are worried about potential side effects, then pray to God and trust your life in His loving hands, accepting the medical necessities.

But most importantly – rejoice in Christ and long for heaven!
